Dammika sells further stake of NDB shares

Investor Dammika Perera sold 150,000 shares of NDB at Rs. 97 each contributing Rs. 14.5 million to yesterday's turnover of Rs. 69 million on the Colombo Bourse. The shares were believed to have been purchased by a company of UK origin. Dammika's Fund Manager said that his remaining shares at the NDB will also be sold, probably today.

Meanwhile, the ASPI further decreased to 835.5 points from 836.4 while the Milanka index increased slightly to 1,472.2 points from 1,470.1.

The top gainers of the day included Autodrome, AMW, Ferntea, Mahaweli Reach and Merchant Bank.

Ad Asia 2003 from Nov. 11-14

Ad Asia 2003 is held under the aegis f the AFAA (Asian Federation of Advertising Agencies) every alternate year. It is the largest and most important event of its kind in the region attracting thousands of delegates from marketing, advertising and media.

This year the event will be held between from November 11 to 14 in Jaipur India. Earlier Ad Asia's were held at Taipei (2001), Pattaya (1999), Manila (1997) and Bali (1995).

The Advertising Council of India (whose members include The Indian Newspaper Society (INS), the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) the Indian Society of Advertiers (ISA) and the Indian Broadcasters' Association (IBF), the Indian Chapter International Advertising Association (ISS) and the Advertising Club Mumbai, team represented by Goutham Rakshit, Managing Director of Advertising Avenues and Chairman, Asian Federation of Advertising Agencies (AFAA), Pradeep Guha, President The Times of India Group and Chairman Organising Committee, Ad Asia 2003 and Ramesh Narayan, Managing Director Canco Advertising and Chaiman, Planning Committee, Ad Asia 2003 will be in Colombo for a presentation on Ad Asia on May 30 at 6.15 p.m. at the Taj Samudra

This presentation is targeted at PR and marketing professionals, marketing consultants, professionals involved in planning and strategy and creative consultants.

Over Rs. 100 million after tax profit for HNB

HNB Securities Ltd, recorded an after-tax profit of over one hundred million rupees. The year 2002 was also the first year in which, HNB Securities Ltd. showed profits.This dramatic turnaround was possible as a result of a restructuring process carried out during the first quarter of 2002, the company said.

H.E. Engineering awarded ISO 9001-2000 certificate

H.E. Engineering (Pvt.) Ltd., one of the leading waterproofing and construction chemical companies in Sri Lanka, established in 1995 received the ISO 9001-2000 quality certification.

The eight-year old H.E. Engineering, is a part of the H.E. Group, which commenced business in Colombo in 1907. The H.E. Group is actively engaged in the import and distribution of food products, furniture, toys, appliances and household products, while H.E. Engineering which began in a small way in 1995, has risen to be the sole agent and approved applicator for manufacturers of waterproofing and construction chemicals from different nations, among which are Singapore, Australia, USA and UAE.

CSB Dreams Come True grand draw

Ceylinco Savings Bank Ltd (CSB) the specialised savings bank within the Ceylinco Consolidated umbrella, launched an innovative scheme, dubbed CSB Dreams Come True Draw, which offers one million rupees in prize money.

It is the only draw that invites customers to name their dreams and aspirations.

Winners will be offered prize money of Rs. 1 million from CSB, to help realise the specifically mentioned dreams and aspirations. In terms of its structure, the CSB Dreams Come True draw has several unique features, a company press release said.

CSB has also arranged a 10% per annum interest on a one-year fixed deposit (payable at maturity) plus 5% on interest as a bonus for all Senior Citizens over 55 years of age, said. Tilak De Alwis, the Senior Manager, Marketing of CSB.

Visvagnana cyber cafe

A cyber cafe is conducted in the Ministry of Economic Reforms Science and Technology, which provides an opportunity to utilise Information Technology. The cyber cafe named Visvagnana centre has 12 computers connected to the Local Area Network.

It provides services from 9.00 am to 8.00 pm on weekdays.

The aim of the Visvagnana centre is to enlighten youth about computer items and studies carried out through the Internet.

The Ministry has also introduced a mobile computer bus. A Local Area Network and a computer unit, which has the access to Internet, are included for this bus.

This bus will visit schools in less facilitated urban, semi urban and village areas and will provide computer knowledge to those students.

According to ministerial plans and e-Sri Lanka program which is aimed at promoting usage of Information Technology the Visvagnana centre and mobile computer bus was introduced as an initial step. Another five Visvagnana centres will be set up during this year, a Ministry press release said.
