Four teams hunt for Ranjith's killers

Four special police teams have been deployed by the Colombo DIG Bodhi Liyanage to trace the killers of People's Alliance Southern Provincial Minister M. K. Ranjith alias Chandi Malli.

Maligakanda Magistrate and Additional District Judge Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena who conducted the Magisterial inquiry on Sunday directed the Fort Police to forward the inquiry reports including the JMO's report and suspects before the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Macky Mahommed for further investigations. The reports stated that the death was due to injuries caused by firearms.

The Provincial Minister was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the High Security Zone, York Street, Colombo on Sunday morning.

He was shot while returning after appearing before the CID on a court order.

A senior officer of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday said that Ranjith was not killed opposite the CID office. The killing took place in York Street, Colombo Fort, he said.
