by Jayantha Sri Nissanka Another five star brawl involving a politician occurred in the wee hours of yesterday(26) during a Wedding reception at a leading Colombo Hotel where a UNP MP from the South was reported to have fired shots in the air. The bridegroom was among the victims with his hand being bitten by one of the participants in the brawl Fort OIC Jayantha Seneviratne told the Daily News last night. The MP had attended the wedding of a relative along with his colleagues.With liquor flowing freely a clash erupted between two parties on the dance floor which developed into a free for all.Hotel crockery and cutlery were also used in the fight. Later the MP had come out of the Hotel and fired three shots from his pistol and left in an unregistered vehicle,police said. Six employees of the Hotel suffered minor injuries, OIC Seneviratne said. According to him the bride and groom had identified the unruly guests. When contacted by the Daily News the MP concerned said that a dispute occurred between two parties on the dance floor. "I went to settle the dispute when some employees attacked a few of my relatives with dinner plates which had caused injuries to them.However I was unable to settle the dispute.Therefore I came out of the Hotel and fired three shots from my pistol into the air which stopped the fight. Thereafter the crowd dispersed." he said.
