Japanese company to donate gully bowser - UC Chairman

Kuliyapitiya group correspondent

The Chairman of the Kuliyapitiya UC Shelton Nimal Pieris (UNP) informed the Council at its monthly meeting that a Japanese company would donate a gully bowser for the Council. However, the Council had to pay the freight charges in a sum equivalent to 350,000 yen. As it is a long-felt need of the Council, the sanction of the Wayamba Chief Minister, Wayamba Provincial Commissioner of Local Government and the Minister of Local Government, Provincial Councils and Home Affairs is needed to obtain the donation.

The Council decided to receive the donation after obtaining the sanction of the authorities.

The Vice Chairman Luxman Adikari (UNP) suggested to launch a shramadana campaign to clean the town by removing the posters on the walls and lamp posts.

The Chairman said that the RDA neglected its responsibilities but the Council was blamed for them.

Recently a newspaper (not a Lake House paper) carried a story with a picture alleging the Council for not maintaining the drains. The story is true but the responsibility of maintaining the drains of the main roads is with the RDA. It is not our fault but the RDA's. Our duty is cleaning the drains which we do. Several slabs over the drains are broken and the pedestrians would fall into the drains. We are blamed for the wrongs committed by other institutions.

He said, Wayamba Chief Minister wanted a place in Kuliyapitiya town to inaugurate an Arts and Sports Centre. I suggest that the Meegahakotuwa public playground be given for the purpose.

The Vice Chairman Luxman Adikari (UNP) said, it was a long-felt need in the Kuliyapitiya area. We express our gratitude to the Chief Minister for fulfilling the need. Supun Adikari (PA) said the proposed Arts and Sports Centre was a donation from the President for Wayamba. The Chief Minister wants it to be inaugurated in Kuliyapitiya.

The people of the area will be benefited from that, "I move the Kuliyapitiya UC thanks the Chief Minister for inaugurating Arts and Sports Centre in Kuliyapitiya and second the suggestion of the Chairman to release Meegahakotuwa public playground for that."
