Sigiriya group correspondent We have a Constitutional bond and a duty to uphold all the religions of Sri Lanka, giving foremost place to Buddhism - protect and foster Buddhasasanaya. Completion of 250 years to the higher ordination of the Siamese Sect of Malwatta Chapter is an event of great historical importance to the entire Buddhist world, Tissa Attanayake, Minister of CRD said. He was making a progress assessment tour to the worksite of the International Thai-Sri Lanka Buddhist Centre and other Viharayas included in these programme. This unique event will be marked by the presence of the Prime Minister of Thailand, and establishing the 'Thai-Sri Lanka International Centre for Buddhists' at Pallekele. It is also planned to restore several ancient temples at Suriyagoda, Dalugolla - Asgiri Gedige and "Poya ge" of Malwatta Viharaya and a series of ceremonies with state patronage. I have been instructed to make a full survey of all the activities connected with this event. The Minister emphasised that the Central Cultural Triangle and the Department of Archaeology under which restoration work takes place to protect the historical architectural design, which we consider as our treasure and glory. Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijeyeratne said the International Buddhist Centre was funded by the State of Thailand and the Daladamaligawa. It is a fully pledged complex of building where a Conference Hall - providing seating for 1000, fifty lecture halls, hospitals for Bhikkhus, Computer and a language centre, and a restroom for host Bhikkus, who come from aborad - are planned to be built. Making a special reference Diyawadana Nilame Wijeyeratne said: "had it not been the cooperation of the Minister of CRD Tissa Attanayake the restoration project would not have been a reality". |
