All Island scrabble competition on July 5 and 6 The Sri Lanka Scrabble League is a non-profit organization with the aim to popularize scrabble in Sri Lanka. It provides opportunities for people from all walks of life from the age of 8 to senior citizens to play socially and competitively at national and international levels. Regular Scrabble sessions are held every Sunday from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Sumithrayo Training Centre, 60/7, Horton Place, Colombo 7. Conceived over 70 years ago by Alfred Butts, an unemployed American architect, Scrabble continues to fascinate and delight people worldwide. It is an English word game played by interlocking words, crossword fashion on the playing board using tiles with various score values. Scrabble helps improve vocabulary, spelling, dictionary skills, mathematics and spatial relationships. The much awaited Annual All Island scrabble competition organised by the Sri Lanka Scrabble League will be held on 5th and 6th July, 2003 at the Sumithrayo Training Centre, 60/7, Horton Place, Colombo 7. It will be held in three categories - Open (Open to all), Juniors (Below 15 years) and Sub-Juniors (Below 12 years).
