Desperate situations call for desperate measures. With the ongoing hospital minor employees strike crippling inhouse services and the Health Ministry’s decision to enlist outside help, these mothers of the little ones warded at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital yesterday banded themselves together to prepare the mid day meal of this premier children’s hospital. Here some of the mothers cutting vegetables plunging into their task with gusto to ensure their children already hit by illness don’t go starving. Police on trail of human smuggling kingpins

The Criminal Investigations Department probing the human smuggling racket where 259 illegal immigrants tried to leave for Western Europe from Tangalle, gathered vital information on three underworld kingpins behind the scene, SSP D.S.Y. Samaratunge of Anti-Human Smuggling Unit of CID said yesterday.
