| News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | UNP Executive Committee meeting in Embilipitiya by Ananda Kannangara United National Party supporters from all over the country will flock today in their numbers at the Mahaweli Stadium Embilipitiya for the party's Executive Committee meeting. UNP parliamentarians will be accompanied by cluster organisers, and other party activists from all parts of the country. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be the Chief Guest. The meeting will commence at 2.00 p.m. under the theme "Guiding the Nation on the Correct Path". After the inaugural session the UNP Executive Committee will meet to discuss several issues pertaining to the party's future programmes including the most important "Regaining Sri Lanka" program, non confrontational politics, democracy and streamlining public service. "Almost all members have confirmed their participation at today's meeting and arrangements have been finalised to conduct it on a grand scale, UNP Media spokesman Gayantha Karunatillaka told the Daily News yesterday. He said that the first session will be over around 5.30 p.m. and an exhibition "Nava Dekma", organised by the Ministry of Industries will be opened at the same venue by the Prime Minister at 6.00 p.m. Meanwhile Ministry of Industries, Personal Assistant M. J. M. Ashroff said that 20 government ministries and departments have been invited to participate at the exhibition depicting the progress in the country's economy and the peace process achieved by the government during the past 15 months. "The exhibition will also unveil the government's new vision and the Regaining Sri Lanka program and also the strength of the unprecedented donor support received in Tokyo," he said. The National Executive Committee will meet again on July 5 at 9.00 a.m. for tabling and adoption of resolution discussed during previous days sessions. Thereafter the Prime Minister will address the members on the government's economic programmes to be implemented in the future and the progress of the peace process. A special committee headed by UNP Deputy Leader Minister Karu Jayasuriya is handling arrangements for the National Executive Committee meeting. Other members of the Committee are UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrema, General Secretary Senarath Kapukotuwa, Treasurer Nimal Weeraratna, Ministers P. Dayaratna and Ananda Kularatna, Galle District MP and UNP media spokesman Gayantha Karunatillaka and Ms. Indrani Iriyagolla. The Prime Minister will also attend a ceremony at Ratgaha temple, Ratnapura on July 6 at 4.00 p.m. |
