Lorry with load of cement hijacked by Ranil Wijayapala The Security Forces have expressed their suspicion over the activities in the LTTE controlled areas in Batticaloa as another lorry with a load of cement had been hijacked allegedly by the LTTE in Chenkaladi on Tuesday. According to Defence sources four LTTE cadres hijacked this lorry with a consignment of 200 cement bags along with its driver and assistant on Tuesday while it was passing Chenkaladi bound for Batticaloa. The lorry owner, Ahamed Lebbe Hajjiyar Adam Lebbe, has complained to the Eavur Police that according information available with him from an eye-witness, four LTTE cadres waylaid and robbed his lorry load of cement worth Rs. 1,280,000. The lorry driver has been identified as W. A. K. Wijesundera and his assistant, Thambiraj Kumar. The Security Forces have reported the incidents of this nature where lorry loads of cement were hijacked allegedly by the LTTE. On May 29 and June 4 such incidents were reported from Kumpurumoolai area. On June 6 also a lorry carrying 300 bags of cement was hijacked from the general area of Sunkenkerny. Eravur Police are conducting investigations on the recent incident. The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in Batticaloa has also been informed in this regard, Defence sources added. |
