Kaluaggala Motocross on July 27 by Bernard Perera The Kaluaggala Motocross 2003 organised by Sri Lanka Racing Riders Association and sponsored by Gayan Motors, Colombo will be held on July 27 at Gayan Racing Complex Kaluaggala commencing 9.30 a.m. The event also gets the assistance from Sri Lanka Army Motor Sports Committee headed by Ivan Dassanayake. The details were disclosed by President of the Sri Lanka Racing Riders Association Upali Dassanayake. He said Gayan Racing track is one of the best circuits here, and the riders are sure to do well here on this day. This will also be the first occasion that the motor sports loving fans get the opportunity of witnessing foreign riders on this magnificent track, said Dassanayake. Nine foreign riders from India (five), Malaysia (three) and Japan (one) have already confirmed their participation on the track which could give the local competitors a torrid time. The association expects over 100 entries from locals for the fifteen events that are scheduled to be worked off.Dassanayake said the Army Motor Sports Committee has taken great pains in promoting the sport in Sri Lanka, with many events organised by them. The proceeds from these events were used for the benefit of the families of the soldiers who died during the war and the disabled soldiers. Thirty percent of the proceeds from Kaluaggala Motocross too will be diverted for this purpose through the Army, which will man the security section at these events. the servicemen have done a commendable job said Dassanayake. He also added that for the first time the organisers have decided to give away cash awards to three competitors who finish first for all events in addition to trophies. Entries for this close today. He thanked the proprietor of Gayan Motors D. M. D. Jayatissa for organising the motocross at Kaluaggala with a class track. He said special transport facilities will be provided after holding discussions with transport authorities from the area. |
