Lankans outclass Grenada 58-35 Sunil Abeyawardana from Jamaica KINGSTON. Jamaica. Sri Lanka scored a morale boosting 58 goals to 35 win over Grenada in their 11th World netball championships ranking tournament match played at the Jamaica indoor stadium. This was another impressive performance from the Sri Lankans following their easy win over the Cayman Islands on the previous day. Sri Lanka dominated the game from the start and maintained a clear lead over their opponents until the final whistle. The entire Sri Lankan team clicked well and they were outstanding in both attack and defence. Star player Sashika Samarasinghe was again outstanding and did the bulk of the scoring with the back up support coming from Damayanthi Jayatilleke, Gayathri Lankatilleke and Gishanthi Jayakody. Earlier Sri Lanka lost to St. Vincent by 62 goals to 46 in another ranking tournament match played at the Jamaica indoor stadium. Sri Lanka could have pulled off this game but poor shooting and inaccurate passing by the entire side cost them the match. They were trailing 9-17 at the end of the first quarter but came back well to win the second quarter 12-11. Sri Lanka failed to maintain their consistency thereafter and were beaten 11-18 in the third quarter and drew 15 all in the fourth and final quarter. |
