Witness points finger at Hindu minister in Gujarat riots AHMEDABAD, India, Friday (AFP) A Muslim witness to last year's gory riots in western India's Gujarat state Thursday accused a slain minister of the ruling Hindu nationalist BJP party of leading a mob that carried swords and petrol bombs. The witness, dentist Yunus Mohammad Bhavnagari, said he was forced to fire on rioters to defend himself and his family from the crowd that was led by former state home minister Hiren Pandya. Pandya was murdered a few months back when he had gone for a morning walk near his house. Several riot victims had named Pandya in many cases. Bhavnagari's wife Tasneem Bhavnagari, who accompanied him for deposition, expressed frustration over the pace of justice. |
