by Nadira Gunatilleke National Twins' Day Festival organised by the Sri Lanka Twins Cultural and Development Centre will be held on August 23 at 5.30 pm at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo. The chief guest will be Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya. Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Johnston Fernando will be the guest of honour. Thai Ambassador is also among the distinguished guests. According to the Managing Director of Sri Lanka Twins' Cultural and Development Centre, Major Mahinda Hettiarachchi, about 500 invitees to be participated in this event while 10,000 gathering expected. According to the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Twins' Cultural and Development Centre, Upuli Gamage the declaration of August 23 each year as National Twins' Day by Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya will also be take place parallel to the festival. This will be a world record. At present Chinese Thaipei holds the world record for the largest twins gathering and the organisers of the National Twins' Day hope to break this record on August 23, 2003 in Colombo. The event has organised parallel to the tenth Anniversary of the centre and this festival which presents twins' dance items free for the public. ANCL is the media sponsor of this event. The Sri Lanka Twins' Cultural and Development Centre is the first charity organisation of its kind in the world. It was founded in 1993 on August 23 with the aim of providing cultural backing, education and other welfare assistance to the twins. At present the membership of this organisation is 7000. |
