Blue Star SC a vastly improved side

The Blue Star SC was formed fifteen years ago and was placed very lowly in the soccer scene. In the year 1993 it took a long stride towards a major role in soccer for the area. Schools tournament was held for the late R. Premadasa Memorial Trophy at Kalutara that year where Kalutara Muslim Vidyalaya won the coveted trophy in the inaugural year.

This victory by the Kalutara boys prompted the people of the Kalutara district to take part in soccer at competitive level, especially the Blue Star SC. The residents from Kalutara assisted the club to proceed further, and the club was able to win many trophies from the district tournaments which boosted the morale of the club.

First they won the Vernon Fernando Memorial Trophy and went onto win the Manilal Fernando Trophy. This they achieved for five successive years. These victories put Blue Star SC on the soccer map.

Philanthropists of the area took a keen interest in Soccer and the Blue Star SC. Manilal Fernando, the benefactor of Sri Lanka soccer along with the then Secretary of FFSC G. A. K. Abeysekera paned the way for Blue Star' to reach the battle in Bristol League Championship. The club first played in 'C' Division, 'B' Division and later was promoted to 'A' Division in the Bristol League. They keep on playing 'A' Division Soccer for few years without falling down from this division. This resulted in Blue Star SC moving onto play Dialog Premier League.

Within a period of fifteen years the club is credited with presenting five players for the national team. They are Fowzan, Hamza, Ismail, Imran and Murshid. This achievement was mainly due to the interest and the support extended by the residents of Kalutara towards Blue Star SC.

Hamza was invited by a Maldivian Club to play in the Champions League in Male. The Club is grateful to Kalutara Football League and all those who supported the club to reach the top fifteen in the island V. Manilal Fernando is a tower of strength for Blue Star SC which gets all assistance and advice from this staunch supporter of soccer.
