Changes at top eminent by Bernard Perera Last year's runners-up in the Premier League Soccer Championship Police SC with a win against champs in the ongoing Dialog Premier League ousted the table leaders Army to take the top spot last week, Blue Star SC who were lying third moved a step up to reach the second slot. Police SC has registered eight victories from 12 games so far to collect 25 points while the second and third placed Blue Star SC and Army also with the same number of matches but lesser number of wins have gained 23 points each. Negombo Youth SC, the defending champions maintained the fourth place though they lost to Police with 20 points. Airforce after completing eleven games are well placed at the fifth slot with an aggregate of 20 points, Ratnam SC too are fighting along with airmen to move ahead of them as they too have bagged 20 points. Jave Lane SC who took the top billing in the early stages have slipped down to eighth slot after losing four, drawing four and registered four wins from twelve games. There were no change at the bottom of the table with Saunders slipping down to eleventh position from seventh. As the Dialog Premier League almost reaching its halfway mark it looks like a battle between the top six teams for the title. This weekend Police will not have things tough as they take on Ratnam SC. Meanwhile third placed Army will take on Java Lane where the soldiers are favoured here. If Army wins this encounter they are more up as Blue Star SC is not having an encounter this week. Victory SC will face tough opposition from Negombo Youth who are all out to regain their lost prestige and looking forward to move onto the top. |
