SSC play NCC for J.R. Jayewardene Trophy on Sept. 14

For almost a 100 years, the Sinhalese Sports Club and their neighbours Nondescript Cricket Club have been firm rivals at cricket. These 2 clubs together have produced as much as 50 to 60% of the national cricketers and their contributions to the game are many.

Large crowds over the years throng Maitland Place to see these two great clubs in action against each other.

Since despite their tremendous rivalry on the field cricket was played the way it should be played.

Unfortunately due to the structures of the Board Tournament there were times when the two clubs did not meet each other every season and in order to maintain this relationship the annual NCC/SSC limited over encounter for the J.R. Jayewardene Trophy was arranged.

This year's match which is the 5th in the series will be played at the NCC ground on September 14 starting at 10.00 a.m.

Sri Lanka player Russel Arnold now also leading the Sri lanka 'A' team captains the host, the NCC who will also have test captain Hashan Tillekeratne. Kumar Sangakkara, Naweed Nawaz, Thilina Thusara, Ravindra Pushpakumara, Akalanka Ganegama, Upul Chandana now joining the NCC ranks Ishara Amarasinghe. Pradeep Hewage and talented stars of the future of the likes of Malintha Thotuvilage, Upul Tharanga, Kaushal de Silva, Saminda Gallage, Aravinda and Jeremy Saverimuthupulle (Schools Best Bowler).

Their friendly neighbour, the SSC will be led by the brilliant batsman Mahela Jayawardena and again will be overflowing with national players such as one day skipper Marvan Atapattu, Avishka Gunawardena, Nuwan Zoysa, Ruchira Perera , Dilhara Fernando, Chamara Silva, H. Wickremaratne, D. Hettiarachchi, T. Samaraweera and a host of talented youngsters of the likes of Jeewan Mendis, T. Paranawitharane and D. Kariyawasam.

President of the BCCSL Thilanga Sumathipala will be the chief guest.
