NCS - Ceylinco Technology to carry out e-Government Consultancy Project

"The National Computer Systems (NCS) has tak en Singapore to the pinnacle of e-Government pra ctice in the world and made them the best-of-breed and we hope to leverage on NCS' knowledge, methodologies and practices to jumpstart our own National flagship e-Government program for the economic and social prosperity of Sri Lanka" said Manju Hathotuwa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Information and Communication Technology Agency in Sri Lanka (ICTA).

The Agency has nominated Ceylinco Technology Infrastructure Pvt Ltd and its overseas partner NCS National Computer Systems Pvt Ltd to initiate the e-Government strategy consultancy project in Sri Lanka. The official signing ceremony took place at Ceylinco Seylan Towers on Tuesday.

Deshamanya Dr. Lalith Kotelawala, Chairman of Ceylinco Consolidated, said Ceylinco Consolidated is proud to be associated with National Computer Systems of singapore for the first consultancy phase of the e-Government project in sri Lanka. Ceylinco with a long history in Sri Lanka, and NCS with its proven capability will no doubt be a powerful combination. With this project, I am sure we will contribute to the future of Sri Lanka in IT systems, he said.

Tan Ching Khoon, Director of Ceylinco Technology Infrastructure and Chairman Transview Holdings Ltd said the Singapore has a strong track record of IT in government and business and this experience can be shared with many other countries in the world. The e-Government program of Sri Lanka, funded by the World Bank is the right strategy to bring Sri Lanka the benefits brought about by the deployment of technology in Government for efficient public services infrastructure.

The Sri Lanka e-Government Strategy Consultancy Project, funded by the World Bank, will map out the e-Government framework and flagship projects that will accelerate the realisation of the e-Sri Lanka initiative. The consultancy project is expected to be completed by February 2004.

The e-Sri Lanka initiative is a government-private sector driven infocomm technology (ICT) initiative aimed at increasing Sri Lanka's overall national productivity and improving her global competitiveness. One of its key goals is to propel the country's long-term economic and social prosperity through the implementation of various impactful e-Government projects. e-Sri Lanka will fundamentally rationalise Sri Lanka's public services, move her up the economic value chain and propel the country into a knowledge-based economy (SP).
