Workshop and exhibition of Lankan and European fashion artists

Body Wrap and Wearable Art, the exhibition of artlink 2003 will be opened at 6.00p.m. on November 15 at the Barefoot Gallery, 706, Galle Road, Colombo 03. The exhibition will be open to the public till November 20.

Fifteen Sri Lankan and three European artists will explore how to create artistic and wearable items from textile and non-textile materials available in the southern range during the ten days residential camp from November 3 to 13, at the Bay Beach Hotel, Weligama.

At the end of the ten-day workshop in Weligama, the artists will display their products at the exhibition.

The 7th annual international artlink workshop will provide individual working facilities and foster international cultural co-operation through lectures and talks on the art scene in their respective countries.

The aim of the international artlink workshop are to exchange the expertise and vision of fashion between Sri Lanka and Europe, create new uses of diverse indigenous materials - both textile and non-textile and public media-assisted presentations of workshops held in Matara and Colombo.

The Artlink International Artists Camp is sponsored by the British Council, German Cultural Institute, The Alliance Francaise and Vibhavi Academy.

Among the artists are Priyanka Kaluarachchi, B.A. Mahesh Peiris, B.K. Niganthi Kumari of the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, G.A. Asanga Godamuna, Inoka Samarasekara, Yashika Perera, Lahiru Sandarekha, Yojani Upananda, Malithi Ranasinghe, Dilini Wijeratne, Ruwandika Senanayake of University of Moratuwa, Kusal Gunasekara, Chammika Jayawardana of Vibhavi Academy, Katja Then(Germany), Simon Thorogood(U.K), Melanie Bonnier(France) are taking part at the workshop.

Prasanna Liyanage of the University of Moratuwa is co-ordinating the camp.

Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Jurgen Elias, Ambassador of France, Jean-Bernard de Vaivre, Deputy British High Commissioner, Peter Hughes and Managing Director, ODEL, Otara Chandiram will participate at the event.
