by Manjula Fernando The Disciplinary Committee at Royal College met yesterday to discuss Wednesday's violent clash between Thurstan and Royal students. Five Thurstan students were rushed to hospital with minor injuries received in the incident which took place after school hours. National Schools Director P.H.P.Geeganage visited both schools yesterday morning in order to probe the incident and settle the volatile situation. The clash is said to have been triggered over an earlier dispute between some senior students of the two schools near a Restaurant in the vicinity. "Although some claimed that about 30 Thurstan students stormed the Royal College premises on Wednesday afternoon, there is evidence to suggest that the allegations are not true," Geeganage told the Daily News adding that they believe the incident had occurred in front of the Royal College. Twelve students of Royal College have been identified with involvement in the earlier incident on November 6 and five of them had admitted that they had been under the influence of liquor at the time. The National Schools Director had directed that action be taken under the schools' disciplinary regulations against the children who were involved in violence. The Disciplinary Committee yesterday decided to call both parents of the students for the inquiry. |
