No conditions from LTTE to resume talks - GL

by Manjula Fernando

LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran has informed Norwegian facilitators that they were prepared to resume peace talks with no added conditions, Government Chief Negotiator Prof.G.L. Peiris told the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday.

He stressed the importance of an early settlement to the present political uncertainty since the LTTE has said they were ready to break the deadlock of over seven months and begin discussions for a durable solution to the ethnic issue.

Prof. Peiris also said they were pleased over the recent remarks made by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga that she accepts the LTTE proposals as a basis for resuming peace talks.
