Comfortable 3-0 win for Sri Lanka Sri Lanka defeated Laos by three goals to nil under lights at Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday. This was the second leg of the Olympic pre-qualifying round game. Sri Lanka got ahead in the 37th minute of the game when E. B. Channa's header beat the Laos custodian. The Lemons were taken with Sri Lanka leading 1-0. During the first half the Lankans though got to a lead did not fair well. But soon after the turnaround Sri Lanka displayed better soccer to baffle the visitors. The Lankan efforts proved a success when Kasun Jayasuriya slammed the second goal for the home team in the 54th minute. The visitors came back at this stage making few good moves to attack the goal but failed at the finish. In the last minutes of the game Sri Lanka went further ahead through a goal from Nazar Mohamed. This too was a neat header which also gave the home team a comfortable victory. The first leg played in Laos ended in a nil-all draw. Maldivian referee A. Haleem controlled the game. - (BP) |
