by Ranga Jayasuriya The LTTE yesterday urged the Tamil National Alliance to campaign for a favourable Indian stance to the Tigers when LTTE political chief Thamilselvam met TNA parliamentarians in Killinochchi. "Since India is our neighbour and the regional power, any Indian misgiving about the LTTE is detrimental to the peace process," LTTE spokesman Daya Master quoted Thamilselvam as telling the TNA MPs. All TNA parliamentarians except its president Anandasangaree were present at the meeting which lasted for two and a half hours. Any Indian action against the LTTE, Thamilselvam said, will support the anti-peace elements in the south. The LTTE spokesman said TULF General Secretary R.Sambanthan who led the delegation assured the support of his party. The LTTE spokesman said the discussions with the TNA focused on three main issues- Indian stance, the Muslim factor in the Interim Administration and the current political situation. He said Thamilselvam had assured that the rights of the Muslims will be ensured in the proposed interim administration adding that the Tigers will invite the Muslim political leaders to Killinochchi to brief them on the Human rights guarantees proposed for the minorities in the IA. Commenting on the current political stalemate, Thamilselvam has stressed the continuation in the impasse in the peace process is detrimental saying the two main parties should seek a early compromise. |
