TOS Lanka wins confidence of international buyers TOS Lanka (Pvt) Ltd has performed and gained the confidence of international buyers successfully passing a crucial time, CEO of the company Merrick Gooneratne said. The company, a major supplier for electronic components is guided by the famous saying of Harold S. Geneen. "It is an immutable law in business that words are words, explanations are explanations, promises are promises, but only performance is reality. The owner of the Company Jitsuo Mikasa invested on this project at a time Sri Lanka was not even known as a supplier for electronic components. Another significant fact was that the signing of the agreement of this multi-million BOI project took place on the day of the Central Bank bomb explosion. "But our Chairman took it up well and placed full confidence in our country. We had to work hard and establish contacts globally at the initial stages," Gooneratne said. TOS Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. is a fully owned subsidiary of the major Japanese Electronics Components manufacturer Tosslec Co Ltd which was launched in 1997 on a four-acre land within the Free Trade Zone at Biyagama. The modern factory has manual and automated electronics assembly lines supported by chip mounting and wave soldering plants together with extensive testing facilities. The company's major products and services are SMT Assembly of printed circuit boards, automotive harnessing for Japan, factory automation products, electronic guitar tuners and conventional assembly to USA, Japanese, India and European markets. It specialises in SMT assembly of PCB using high speed chip mounters manufactured by Panasonic, supported by updated soldering systems and technology. CEO Gooneratne said that the company has to maintain very stringent zero defect quality standards as it has to satisfy internationally reputed automotive brand makers. According to the CEO, this machine can handle parts ranging from 0201 chips to large parts such as BGAS CSPS and connectors. The company also hopes to fill the gap that exists in the Sri Lankan market in the area of basic electric components by serving the requirements of printed circuit boards of the local electronic industry which has hitherto been imported. The Company hopes to contribute to the development of Sri Lanka for the electronic manufacturing sector. TOS Lanka is also focussed on human resource development. The staff was carefully selected and it has invested immensely on training. Majority of the workforce have been trained in Japan speak Japanese fluently and they are part of a continuous training program in Japan to ensure they keep abreast with the latest technology. The senior management have also had professional training in Japan under AOTS/JASTECA scholarships. The Company is 9001/2000 certified and holds the environment protection licence and has initiated the 6 Sigma Process. |
