M. Jayaratne told the Daily News. He said yesterday 67 acres of State land in Hantana, Kandy which has a market value of Rs. 60,000 a perch, was sold to the daughter of a Cabinet Minister in the UNF government for a song. Another 110 acres of land in Mahakanda, Kandy was also sold to a son of Cabinet Minister who represents Parliament from the National List. The names of the two Ministers are among the list of top five Cabinet Ministers with the Bribery Commission. Apart from that, 300 acres of land in Kandy owned by the State has also been sold for an under estimated price, ignoring tender procedures. No tenders had been called nor had the sale been advertised in newspapers, the Minister said. A part of the land in Hantana, Kandy has already been blocked out and sold at Rs 60,000 a perch. Residents had lodged a complaint with the Bribery Commission to probe into this shady deal and to bring those responsible to book. |
