LTTE will rigidly observe ceasefire - Anton Balasingham

In spite of the political turmoil and uncertainty in Colombo, we will rigidly observe the ceasefire regulations and maintain peace, LTTE theoretician Anton Balasingham has said. Balasingham said the Tigers will abide by the ceasefire agreement.

"The dissolution of the Sri Lankan Parliament and the call for a snap election constitutes a grave setback to the peace process," Balasingham was quoted as saying in the Tamilnet.

The London based LTTE theoretician, while reminding that his movement was committed to a peaceful resolution of the ethnic problem, urged the international community to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the North-East.

He called on the Sinhala masses to support forces committed to peace adding that the Sinhala voters have to make a choice at the forthcoming elections as to whether they decide to coexist with the Tamils in harmony or force them to seek a separate state.

"It is the majority Sinhala people who have the final choice in the forthcoming elections to decide as to co-exist with the Tamils in peace, harmony and prosperity or compel them to seek the path of political independence on the basis of their right to self-determination," he said.
