At a highly charged meeting presided over by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe held at the Sirikotha party headquarters, the ex-MPs also blasted the Prime Minister's Media Unit for blowing up the image of only certain favourites while party veterans and senior Ministers were ignored. They lambasted the Finance Ministry and Treasury Officials for not allocating funds for development projects in the electorates. Most former Parliamentarians alleged that a former Chairman of a certain media institution acted in a high handed manner as if no one could dictate terms to him since he was the Prime Minister's nominee. The MPs alleged that this Chairman had given publicity to Minister's and Parliamentarians who were his friends only. The main grouse of the former Parliamentarians was that the Finance Ministry acted as a stumbling block without allocating funds for development activities in the electorates. Most of the speakers said they were now unable to visit their electorates and face the voters due to the activities of the Finance Ministry and the PM's Media Unit. At this meeting many backbenchers have drawn the Prime Minister's attention to the lack of funds to fight the next election. |
