An emergency Japanese relief assistance to drought affected districts will be signed today at Sarvodaya, Moratuwa. The Japanese government responding to an appeal to the international community by the Sri Lanka Government will provide drought assistance to 2,400 families in selected districts affected by the drought. This assistance amounting to Rs. 3.8 million will be provided through the Sarvodaya Movement which will distribute packs of dry rations to families worse affected by the drought in Puttalam, Hambantota, Anurdhapura and Moneragala districts. The Japanese assistance will cover 20 villages in nine Divisional Secretariat areas. The emergency assistance beneficiaries have been selected by Sarvodaya in consultation with the Divisional Secretaries and the Grama Niladaries. Ambassador Akio Suda and Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement of the Sri Lanka President, Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne will sign the agreement today. |
