The National Livestock Development Board has launched a project to support farmers, to purchase machinery and equipment to improve the local infrastructure. This Proposal is designed to help strengthen and support rural areas. The Board has purchased agricultural machines and equipment with funds provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. Milking machines, drum movers, heavy-duty tractors, irrigation units and computers are amongst machinery and equipment purchased for distribution to the Board's farms, the NLDB said in a press release. Farm activities had been hampered in the past, due to the non-availability of machinery: these new investments will aid farmers in their work, the release said. "From arranging to purchase villagers' produce such as, milk, coconuts, paddy and other products to ensure a fair price in the open market. New projects such as a quail project, Giriraj country fowl project, turkey, duck, fresh water fish, seed potato production all designed to help boost additional income. Together with formal training courses for local villagers to improve their theoretical and practical knowledge about animal husbandry and agriculture, the Government is determined to support our rural areas", a NLDB spokesman said. |
