Addressing a SLFP Trade Union conference at the Central Province Governor's office recently, he said in the past, each time the SLFP formed alliances, it was always corporation officials or employees' union representatives who were nominated in the National List. In contrast, this time, the UPFA named D. C. Weerasekera, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Independent Government Employees Trade Union Federation to represent the public service sector, Ekanayake said. Trade Union Federation General Secretary D. C. Weerasekera, said National List MPs nominated on previous occasions were reluctant to raise their voice regarding public servants' grievances but after winning portfolios, some even supported the cause of officials opposed to the party. D. C. Weerasekera is a public servant with 30 years outstanding service to Sri Lanka's trade union movement. |
