Eravur group correspondent The name Tamil Eelam will be dropped and we will use the name Liberation Tigers of Batticaloa and Ampara districts and act democratically in the future, said Karuna Amman at a media conference in Batticloa on March 13. Karuna said he was not prepared for an armed struggle or struggles like Prabhakaran of the Vanni area and that he looks forward to play the role, not of a militant leader but a people's leader. He said he will never prepare for a war again. Karuna said during the past it was the South and the Vanni areas that reaped the results of the pace talks and that the Eastern region did not get any benefits. The Eastern Province expects to hold discussions with a future Government, on economic development, educational development, Karuna said. During the past there was only a Tamil-Muslim conflict in the East and that conflict arose out of the needs of the LTTE Intelligence Unit, Karuna Amman explained. He told journalists that his objective was to re-establish the unity that prevailed between the Tamils and Muslims prior to 1983. |
