Sri Lankan Udugampola in 'London marathon' By Richard Dwight The 64-year-old Sri Lankan, Vernon Chandrasiri Udugampola, of Northwood London, will take part in the London Marathon which is scheduled for April 18. This is one of the most prestigious runs, where athletes run for the purpose of collecting funds for charity. Udugampola, a grandfather at that, with a bent for philanthropy, has earned a reputation for raising money for charitable causes. He has so far collected 500 pounds running in smaller marathons in the UK, and intends to collect more after this run, in aid of the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama. Udugampola hopes to finish the 'London Marathon' in 5 1/2 hours and, thereafter in the future hopes to run in the marathons of New York and Tokyo. Udugampola, takes pride in participating in Marathons, and to keep fit has been running approximately 4 to 5 miles daily, for the past 18 years.
