Over 5,000 Police personnel for Wayamba elections by Sarath Malalasekera Over 5,000 Police personnel have been deployed for the 'Wayamba' elections on Saturday, April 24, IGP Indra de Silva said. He urged voters to go to the polls early, in order to avoid any inconvenience. "This is my sincere advice to all voters who are eligible to vote in the Wayamba elections". All is set for the Wayamba elections, the IGP added. IGP Indra de Silva addressing the media at the Police Headquarters yesterday afternoon said that only ten complaints have been received on the Wayamba election front upto yesterday. 'We will not allow a repetition of what happened during the last 'Wayamba elections,' the IGP said. During the election period there will be several road blocks, foot patrols and mobile patrols. 1200 counting centres will be manned by the police. These police arrangements will be in force from tomorrow, the IGP said. According to the statistics available at the Police Headquarters Election Secretariat the law enforcing officers had done an excellent job by controlling the crime situation and no major incidents have been reported in the Wayamba election campaign, the IGP added. Responding to questions, the IGP said no STF or Armed Forces personnel will be deployed during the April 24 elections. |
