Sri Lanka's Ambassador in Saudi Arabia, Ibrahim Ansar said it was very unlikely that any Sri Lankan would have been victim of the Riyadh bomb incident on Wednesday. Ansar has reported that the bomb went off at 1.30 p.m. local time in the Al Wassim area where most of the Government offices such as Police Headquarters, Ministries and Defence Institutions are located, states a Foreign Ministry press release. The Saudi authorities confirmed that the blast was caused by a suicide bomber and two Saudis have been killed and 25 persons injured. The Ambassador sent embassy officials to the nearby Police Stations and to the hospitals where the injured have been admitted. Only two foreigners, one Pakistani and a Bangladeshi, were among the injured. The Ambassador informed that it was very unlikely that any Sri Lankan would have been a victim. Ambassador Ansar has also informed that unconfirmed reports indicate that the death toll and the number of injured persons would have been much higher than the number declared by the Saudi authorities due to the extensive damage caused to the nearby buildings. |
