President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday opened the Ashraff Memorial Dharma Shalawa at the Dighavapi Raja Maha Viharaya, built at a cost of Rs. 7 million. The Dharma Shalawa was built in memory of the late Minister M.H.M. Ashraff. President Kumaratunga also inaugurated work on the rehabilitation of the Dighavapi area by cutting the first sod of soil. Housing, Construction Industry, Eastern Province Education and Irrigation Development Minister Ferial Ashraff is also in the picture.

District Court issues enjoining order:

JHU monk restrained from taking oaths as MP

Colombo District Judge S.M.S. Samarakoon yesterday issued an enjoining order restraining the newly nominated Bhikku, Ven. Akmeemana Dayaratana Thera from taking oaths as a JHU MP in Parliament. The order is operative for one week from yesterday.
