The resolution tabled by Vajira Irugalbandara and seconded by Upali S. Goonaratne said Mr. Cooray was elected as a member of Parliament at the 2004 General Election obtaining the highest number of preferential votes in the Kalutara district. After being appointed Minister of Information and Media his first official act was to shift his Ministry from the World Trade Centre to the Information Department Building at Narahenpita helping the government to save money spent on rental. Cooray was also instrumental in launching an audio visual entertainment program at public places on the theme "Media sponsorship to ease tension of travelling". The resolution further said within three months of winning a Parliamentary election he has again taken up the challenge of facing the hustings at the Provincial Council election. During his tenure as Western Province Chief Minister he had always treated everyone equally by acting in a fair and just manner. The organisation of Professionals of Sri Lanka Freedom Party highly appreciates the sacrifice he has made by resigning his portfolio and deciding to contest the forthcoming Western Provincial Council election for the well- being of the Freedom Alliance Government. |
