'Fitness kingdom' to enhance productivity in banking business by Sudarshana Perera Hatton National Bank (HNB) in partnership with Fitness Kingdom has invested Rs 15 million for a state-of-the-art gym, an innovative business concept which is gaining ground in Sri Lanka creating direct and indirect employment opportunities. The gym "Fitness Kingdom" is at the HNB Towers in Colombo. Deputy General Manager, Premises and Engineering of HNB Patricious Fernando told the Daily News that the Bank set up the gym basically to facilitate enhancing health and fitness of its staff which would lead to increased productivity and efficiency in Banking business. In order to make this venture commercially viable the Bank will attract outside memberships so that it would be a place for physical exercises, aerobics, yoga and stress management for the corporate sector in Colombo. Fernando said that introducing new concepts such as a fitness centre would help reduce health problems among the corporate professionals who are the key stakeholders in the development of the country's economy. "Fitness all around the globe is a rapidly growing industry and now in Sri Lanka it is spreading fast", he said. Director, Fitness Kingdom Aruna N. Aluthge said that investments on more gyms in the country would open more business vistas in the country and help safeguard the health of professionals in the corporate sector. Aluthge said that Fitness Kingdom is also in to manufacturing fitness equipment and would be entering the Maldivian market soon particularly the leisure resorts there. "We will also conduct islandwide awareness campaigns to educate the people and working class on the importance of physical exercises and stress management. Our "Fitness Kingdom" at HNB Towers is equipped with all the state-of-the-art machines and facilities with a competent staff to guide our clients. Today the government and private sector are strongly promoting a healthy lifestyle for private and corporate citizens and our venture would help in their efforts to build an healthy nation", he said. With Global changes and modern economic development strategies, our country's overall pattern of living has changed a great deal. Rapidly growing obesity conditions have made our youth prone to many illnesses. |
