New CIMA president on new goals by Irangika Range Over 40 percent Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) members are involved in the non-accounting sector while over 17 percent are managing their own businesses of the 16,000 CIMA members in the country, said the new President of CIMA, Claude Perera. Perera told a press conference in Colombo yesterday that the theme of the year would be 'developing a passion for perfection' which would guide Sri Lanka's marketing to achieve new goals. "I have planned to establish a new building project to enhance library facilities, increase study space and expand the facility for computer based assessments. There will also be web-based information online and a new state-of the-art auditorium. We will conduct an English education program to broadbase the knowledge of CIMA students," he said. "A loan scheme will also be launched for the benefit of students wishing to follow CIMA and the ICASL students who wish to pay their exemption fees. The CIMA job bank caters to students, passed finalists, and members who seek jobs. It also provides a service to employees to find the ideal candidate to fill their vacancies. We will conduct the international conference to attract Sri Lankan CIMA members residing overseas. Top international business leaders and delegates are expected to attend the event", he said. Perera is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accounts- UK and holds a Masters Degree in Accounting and Finance from the Guildhall University in London. He counts over 25 years' experience in the fields of consulting, finance, marketing, tea industry and business development both in Sri Lanka and the UK. He has been actively involved in the CIMA Sri Lanka Division activities prior to being elected as a President. |
