Raj Rajaratnam sells Rs 2.5 m shares of Hayleys

Business tycoon Raj Rajaratnam dominated trading at the Colombo Bourse yesterday selling Rs 2.5 million shares.

The stake amounting to 5 % of Hayleys was claimed to be bought by Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Ltd.

This contributed around Rs 325 million for the day's turnover. The total turnover for the day was Rs 477,405,508. Buying interest on SLT, Caltex and JKH also continued yesterday.

According to stock brokers, the market experienced mixed investor sentiment and high trade volumes indicated that the market would go for profit taking in the coming days with a technical correction. The All Share Price Index dropped to 1,335.45 points from 1,337.06 points on Friday and the Milanka Price Index rose to 2,027.36 points from 2,021.43 points.

The day's heavily traded stocks were Hayleys, CF Venture Fund, East West, SLT and JKH. Domestic purchases were Rs 2,115 million and foreign purchases Rs 164 million. Samuels, Asian Alliance, East West, Ascot and Durdans were the top five gainers.

Hayleys Ltd announced a 1:10 rights issue at Rs. 20 each.
