It is now firmly established in the country," stated the former Minister of Information and Media Reginold Cooray participating as the chief guest at a ceremony held in connection with handing over rewards to Samurdhi Officers in Kalutara district who brought the highest income on the flag day of the Samurdhi Movement at the Kalutara District Secretariat. He said it is the accepted norm of the country when a new government comes into power the policies of the previous government are done away with and new policies introduced without considering the future of the country. As a result there was degeneration of education in the country. It is fortunate that the Samurdhi Movement continued without any break under the administration of four governments, he added. He said further that there should be an accepted national plan whatever the government comes into power to achieve progress. The Samurdhi Movement was inaugurated to eliminate poverty. There are a large number of officers in the country to contribute to eliminate poverty in the country. The success of this national project depends on the number of people liberated from poverty. The former Minister presented awards to J. P. Piyasiri and Nandani Sumangala, the Samurdhi Officers who collected the highest income in selling Samurdhi agricultural products. H. Hapuarachchi the acting Government Agent, Kalutara, Mrs. Sita Senaratna, the Directress Samurdhi Authority also addressed those present at the ceremony. |
