That science and new technology and information technology must reach the village to develop the village for the prosperity of the country is the concept of the government, said the Minister of Science and Technology Prof. Tissa Vitharana addressing a Provincial Council election propaganda meeting held at Perumbuli stadium, Homagama, recently. Speaking further Prof. Vitharana added, the government has proposed to rebuild one thousand tanks in the country which are abandoned. The irrigation system of our ancestors is marvellous. This is ignored and neglected by our invaders in the past. We will renovate all the neglected tanks and reservoirs specially in the North Central Province, North and East and Uva utilising new technology. Agriculture and small and medium scale industries must go hand in hand to develop the country. The majority of our large scale industries are failures. Handicrafts should be developed introducing the new technology for the rural industrialists. The united opposition is planning to sabotage the mandate given to UPFA in the recent general election. Therefore the victory of the Provincial Councils is highly important to keep up the mandate given us by the people. With all the hindrances of the opposition the Government has completed the interviews of the jobless graduates and appointments will be given in August. The next step will be providing jobs for the persons who have got through GCE (A/L) and GCE (O/L). Before the end of this year another 60,000 jobs will be given to them. The salaries of the government servants will be increased substantially by the next budget. The member of Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha A. Hapuarachchi made the welcome speech. |
