Rendering unto Caesar

Bradman Weerakoon's book 'Rendering unto Caesar' recounting his 50 years of public service under nine Prime Ministers and Presidents of Sri Lanka was launched at the Colombo Plaza Hotel recently.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Lakshman Kadirgamar, Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe, heads of diplomatic missions, Members of Parliament, leading representatives of the business community, heads of international agencies, members of civil society, book publishers and media personalities were present at the launching ceremony.

'Rendering unto Caesar' is Mr. Weerakoon's unique first person account of 50 years of public service - from 1954 to 2004 - as Secretary and senior Advisor to Sri Lanka's Prime Ministers and Presidents. His insightful and entertaining memoir captures nine of the country's most historic figures from Sir John Kotelawala to Ranil Wickremesinghe in revealing public and private moments.

Of powerful current relevance, 'Rendering unto Caesar' shares poignant lessons from the past to inform the challenges of present and future.

Prof. G. L. Peiris MP and Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy delivered speeches about the book and its author. Copies of 'Rendering unto Caesar' were presented by the author to the guests of honour and relatives of the nine personalities whose lives and work are recounted in the book.

'Rendering unto Caesar' is co-published by New Dawn Press of USA, UK, and India and by Vijitha Yapa Publications.
