Bomb blast not against peace process - UPFA

Wednesday's suicide bomb attack was not aimed at sabotaging the peace process and it will not in any way diminish the Government's efforts to achieve lasting peace, United People's Freedom Alliance General Secretary and Power and Energy Minister Susil Premjayanth said yesterday.

Woman accomplice worked for Devananda until April

Sathya Leela Selvakumar, 29, of Jaffna, the woman accomplice of the LTTE woman suicide bomber who committed suicide at the Kollupitiya Police station told CID investigators yesterday she was employed by EPDP Minister Douglas Devananda until last April.

LTTE denies involvement in attack

The LTTE yesterday denied involvement in Wednesday's suicide bombing in Kollupitiya that killed four police personnel. The LTTE said the suicide attack was "one of the operations of some elements who are working to disrupt peace efforts".

Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter told Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday that the government and the Opposition should set aside all political differences and arrive at a common understanding to resolve the national question that had bedeviled the country for over two decades.

British police target Tamil crime gangs in London

Hundreds of police launched raids around London yesterday in a major crackdown on organised crime gangs based around the British capital's Sri Lankan Tamil community, officers said. Thirteen Sri Lankan men were arrested in connection with crimes linked to serious violence, drugs and fraud, some of the proceeds of which are thought to end up with the LTTE in Sri Lanka.
