CEAT exports 1,000th container of tyres Sri Lanka's top tyre manufacturer CEAT recently notched up another milestone, when the company exported its 1000th container of locally manufactured tyres. Exports from CEAT received a boost after the announcement of the Indo Lanka Free Trade Agreement (FTA). In the two years since it began exports, CEAT has exported tyres for trucks, buses, light trucks, tractors, tractor trailers and animal drawn vehicles, valued at over Rs.2 billion. CEAT Managing Director/CEO Oscar Braganza said: "The dedication of our employees, capacity enhancement initiatives and stringent quality process adopted during the manufacturing process have enabled us to meet the strong and increasing international demand for our tyres." "CEAT's exports to India under the FTA is considered one of the most noteworthy success stories of a local company utilising concessions granted under the FTA for the growth in its business." he added. CEAT Sri Lanka has also been exporting significant volumes of locally manufactured tyres to countries in the SAARC region, Dubai, Singapore, Phillippines and Africa. Early this year CEAT invested Rs.45 million on an expansion project aimed at increasing the capacity of its Kalutara plant by 15 per cent to cater to rising export and domestic demand. The company has also received ISO 9001:2000 certification for its entire operations in Sri Lanka. |
