Ambuja lectures for construction professionals Delivering the ninth in a series of technical lectures conducted in Sri Lanka by the Indian cement giant Ambuja, Vice President (Technical Services) of Gujarat Ambuja Cements Cyrus Minocher Dordi called upon the local construction sector to focus on the education, training and certification of personnel as an investment in its future. The author of 98 technical publications on construction related subjects, Dordi covered a wide range of aspects, using pictorial examples from his own 30-year career in construction to illustrate some common and not so common mistakes made in concreting. Architect Prof. Lakshman Alwis, the Chairman of the Institute for Construction Training and Development (ICTAD) was the chief guest at the event which was attended by architects, civil engineers, construction contractors and others involved in the construction industry. The Ambuja Technical Lecture series forms part of the company's multi-faceted program to promote professionalism in construction by imparting technical knowledge and advice to people at many different levels in this sector. As a Corporate Social Responsibility project, Ceylon Ambuja Cement also provides its expertise to students following courses in masonry at training centres of the Vocational Training Authority (VTA), which has designated the company a Resource Partner. Ambuja cement is manufactured at the parent company's Gujarat cement plant in India and is shipped in bulk to Sri Lanka where it is bagged at the company's fully automated bulk cement terminal at the Galle port. Ceylon Ambuja commenced operations in 1999 and is an ISO 9001: 2000 certified company. |
