Public apology must be made for July '83 brutal killings: President

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday noted that there should be a public apology for the events of July 1983 if the country is to move forward. Participating as Chief Guest at the annual prize-giving of St. Anthony's College, Katugastota, which also celebrated its 150th anniversary, the President said her apology in this regard made at the country's 50th Independence Day celebrations was not sufficient to redress what happened in July 1983.
