| Ravi K to appear in court on Nov. 8 by Sarath Malalasekera Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunaratne yesterday directed former Trade and Commerce Minister and UNP Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake, who is on anticipatory bail, to appear before court on November 8, 2004. Earlier, the Judge allowed an application by Karunanayake for anticipatory bail in Rs. 10 million with two sureties. At the outset Inspector Ruwan Gunasekera, OIC, Colombo Crimes and Corruption Investigation Unit, (not Colombo Crimes Division CCD) filed a report in connection with their investigations into the alleged criminal misappropriation of Rs. 15,675,000 funds of the CWE on a fraudulent lease transaction. Inspector Gunasekera told court that the dossier of the investigations into the matter had been forwarded to the Attorney General for his advice. The report filed before court yesterday stated that the investigations into the alleged criminal misappropriation is not completed. 'We have to record the statements of several persons in connection with their ongoing investigations,' Inspector Gunasekera added. After the submissions by the Police and the counsel the Judge directed the case to be called on November 8. Former Commerce and Trade Ministry Secretary Harsha Wickremasinghe, who is also on anticipatory bail, was directed to appear before court on November 8. President's Counsel D.P. Kumarasinghe appeared for Wickremasinghe. Kalinga Indatissa, Shiral Laktilake, Shiraz Noordeen, Janaprith Fernando, Niroshana Perera, Hemantha Gamage and Dayasiri Gamage appeared for Karunanayake. |
