by Asanga Warnakulasuriya Defence Secretary Cyril Herath yesterday categorically and positively affirmed that no military officer attached to any unit of the Sri Lanka Army was killed in Sunday's incident in Kottawa. According to the Defence Secretary, the investigations had clearly revealed that the no army personnel involved in intelligence or any unit was killed in the incident. Responding to the Media whether the killings were a result of the breakdown in Army Intelligence, Herath said that, "One cannot put the blame only on the Armed Forces or Police for such incidents are acts of organised groups cannot be tracked unless the public is vigilant." "Even the best intelligence services in the world had failed to penetrate terrorist activities which had resulted in terrorist attacks worldwide", he said. "Police are now trying to uncover the involvement of the only Sinhalese suspect, Dhammika Dilip Kumara Herath who was killed along with the rest." Preliminary investigations had revealed that he was a Backhoe driver who had worked in Polonnaruwa. "We have already identified three bodies and the rest will be identified soon, he added. |
