DIG Bodhi Liyanage and Hafiz Marikar MMC were elected President and the Secretary of the Kandy Association Football League at the annual general meeting held at the Queens Hotel Ball Room, recently.

Once again atter lapse of two years both football lovers have got together and they are all out to give of their best. This is Liyanage's 15th year as President and it was Marikar who roped him into football scene. In the last two years Marikar was out of the sport and once again he was forced back by the clubs, who missed his capabilities.

Bodhi Liyanage is a product of Mahinda College Galle and University of Ceylon where he played football and rugger. He is a ardent supporter of football and has done his best for Kandy football. Last year he was busy and out of the country on official work and not a single domestic match was played in Kandy.

And this years he started with the Knockout tournament in which Kandy York SC emerged champions and Municipal Council FC as the runners-up.

Liyanage also gives a big hand for schools football and last year a good tournament was held and this year too they are planning for abetter one.

He was one time President of the controlling body and is all out to put football back on the map together with Marikar and rest of the committee members.

Hafiz Marikar who is a city father and a well-known sports promoter in the hills, is a product of St. Sylvester's, where he excelled in sport and later played football and hockey for Young Stars SC, Rugger for Kandy Sports Club and Cricket for Kandy Youth SC.

He became the first Sports Chairman of the Kandy Municipal Council and re-introduced football and this team went on to win the Government Services League and the Knockouts for five long years. And during his Chairmanship sports flourished in the Council.
