Sri Jayawardhanapura Advisory Council meets

The Independent Committee chaired by Sam Wijesinha appointed to advise the University of Sri Jayawardhanapura on security and discipline matters met University Council and University Grants Commission members on July 27.

At the meeting at the UGC chaired by Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Tara de Mel and the members discussed the arrangements put in place to make the environment of the University conducive for re-opening, an Education Ministry release said yesterday.

The long term program to address student welfare, accommodation and academic programs to other student-related issues were also discussed.

The Independent Committee on Security and Discipline, a recommendation of the Chandra Embuldeniya Committee, will meet regularly with the Vice Chancellor and Council and provide advice, guidance and support to overcome the crisis situation at the University of Sri Jayawardhanapura which led to its closure one month ago.
