Business in brief Record price for Cecilton teas A parcel of FBOP from Cecilton Estate fetched a record price of Rs. 1,000 per kg on a Private Sale offer. This estate is managed by M/s. Balangoda Plantations Ltd whose managing agents are the Stassen Group of Companies. The tea was purchased by M/s. Standard Trading Company Ltd and the selling broker was M/s. Bartleet Produce Marketing (Pvt) Ltd. Bourse maintains upward trend The Colombo Bourse continued to maintain its upward trend yesterday with a greater focus on low valued stocks and institutional buying. The interest in the Hotel sector was due to the outstanding performance recorded. The market gained due to heavy speculative buying and according to stock brokers blue chips stocks remain stagnant without any significant movement. The All Share Price Index jumped to 1,461.42 points from 1,454.36 points on Friday. The Milanka Price Index dipped to 2,187.87 points from 2,192,39 . The turnover for the day was Rs 485,362,905. Colombo Land, Ceylinco Seylan, Singer Sri Lanka, Blue Diamonds and Overseas Realty were heavily traded stocks. Domestic purchases were Rs 7,496 and foreign purchases Rs 236 million. The top five gainers were Col Pharmacy, Blue Diamonds, Lankem Dev, Mullers and Colombo Land. Rehabilitation of 10,000 tanks program Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama and Agriculture Minister Anura Kumara Dissanayake will meet the membership of the Colombo Chamber of Commerce to discuss the "Rehabilitation of 10,000 tanks program" shortly. The forum has been arranged at the request of the two ministers in Colombo. The ministers will brief the private sector on activities undertaken to promote the agricultural sector with special emphasis on the initiative of the rehabilitation of 10,000 tanks program with private and public sector partnership which will in turn have a favourable impact on all business directly or indirectly, according to former Chairman, CCC, Tilak de Zoysa.
